“It is not length of life, but depth of life.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mission

The mission of Bedford Hospice House Inc., doing business as Friends of Bedford Hospice House, is to support the provision of a homelike atmosphere for end of life patients who are in need of receiving hospice care and services outside their own homes. It is the goal of Friends of Bedford Hospice House to provide financial support to Centra, Inc. for the purpose of operating Centra Bedford Hospice House as a hospice care facility that provides care with respect, comfort and compassion for those on life's final journey.

“The caregivers were very considerate of family members and others who visited and did everything they could to make us comfortable there.”

History

A group of deeply dedicated, highly motivated Bedford residents began a capital campaign in 2006 to raise the funding necessary to build Bedford Hospice House. Many wonderful friends and donors supported this campaign, and $1.6 million was successfully raised. Bedford Hospice House opened in August 2011. Unfortunately, the licensing to operate as a hospice house fell into some regulatory issues, and Bedford Hospice House was forced to temporarily close in December 2012. It remained vacant, but maintained.

In 2016, the Friends of Bedford Hospice House Board of Directors reached an agreement with Centra to own and operate Bedford Hospice House and reopen it as a hospital based hospice house. We have a great working relationship with our licensing and clinical partner as they are the only entity in this area with the capability of meeting the stringent rules and regulations governing hospice care. Bedford Hospice House reopened in January 2017!
